We have recently asked Wrede Technologies, one of the best known coating consultants in the industry, to run some independent tests to verify the resistance of the Boero YachtCoatings paint systems to severe temperatures and thermal excursions.
Specific mock-ups have been studied to be as realistic as possible, with various sharp curves and varying filler thicknesses applied in different areas. Once the two mock-ups have been coated with the full Boero YachtCoatings paint systems
1. Delta 3000/Epolight Win/Epomar/Delta UC HB/Epoply/Challenger Pro
2. Delta 3000/Epoyacht/Epomar/Delta UC HB/Epoply/Challenger Pro
they have been brought to various sessions of extreme temperatures to test the resistance of the system to realistic temperature excursions which can occur on yachts travelling to harsh climates (which can occur for instance with summer and winter temperatures; in Arctic and Antarctic weathers; in dark coloured yachts, etc.).
After a first run which lasted 24 h (first up to 40 °C and then down to -30 °C), both paint systems successfully survived three temperature cycles including a heat up to approximate temperatures of about 40 °C and subsequent cool down to approximately -30 °C for a total duration of 72 h. Extreme heating to an approximate temperature of 80 °C and subsequent cool down to approximately -30 °C for an additional time of 24 h was not leading to any cracks in both mock-ups.
The temperature performance of the two tested filler/paint systems was in all tests excellent. The observed performance was in the premium range, when compared to test results of other filler systems currently available on the market.
